Links remain an important signal, but bought links, private blog networks and mass guest posting can lead to penalties or simply be ignored. Earned links take more effort and last longer.
Understand what Google considers spam
Google's spam policies cover buying or selling links that pass ranking credit, excessive link exchanges and automated link creation. Sponsored links should carry rel=sponsored or nofollow. If a tactic only works because Google cannot detect it, it is a risk.
Create linkable assets
Original data, calculators, templates and genuinely useful guides attract links naturally. A cost calculator for a service or an annual survey of your customers can be referenced by journalists and bloggers for years.
Use digital PR
Pitch data stories and expert commentary to journalists covering your sector. Responding quickly to journalist requests with useful quotes can earn coverage from relevant publications.
Build local and industry relationships
Chambers of commerce, trade associations, suppliers, event sponsorships and local community projects often link to members and partners. These links are relevant and trusted.
Reclaim existing mentions
Search for mentions of your brand that do not link to you and politely ask for a link. Also fix broken links pointing to old URLs on your site with redirects.

Ask on WhatsAppFrequently asked questions
How many links do I need?
There is no fixed number. Quality and relevance matter far more than quantity.
Are guest posts allowed?
Writing for relevant publications is fine; large-scale guest posting mainly for links is considered spam.
